This is a familiar song every kid knows to sing. When I was a child, I used to sing this song. Now that I have my two young children, I also sing this song with them, not because I want the rain to stop but rather for my children's joy of having a supportive dad. :)
It may sound odd but I love the rainy season. I love to hear the sound of the raindrops on the roof, on the leaves, on the ground. Who would love this wet season which adds discomfort on your daily activities, bringing floods, causing slippery roads & gloomy days? I do! Not because I love the discomfort it brings. I actually feel the comfort out of it.
This season always reminds me of my childhood years in the middle of the green vast farm that is rich with colorful memories. I miss the make-shift banana boating in our mini-lake, the paper boat racing, climbing the trees, eating the water melons in the farm 'cause the water is already coming in for the rice season time. I love to lie down and feel the comfort our bamboo-made floor brought to me. I reflect about life - about the blessings that come everyday. That was for the first 10 years of my life before we moved in the city.
Rainy season to me now is a reminder of God's outpouring of blessings upon me, my family and the ministry He entrusted to us.
I am reminded that He is the one causing growth just like the plants that need water in order to grow, He is watering me of His unlimited blessings for me to continually grow in Him. The grounds are softened because of the water and so my prayer also goes with those whose hearts need a watering from Him. That the seed of God's word planted in their hearts will start to sprout and grow, yielding its fruit in due time.
So when my kids ask me why I love the rain, I explain these reflections to them. They say they love the rain too.
They get excited to run under the rain.
